February 22, 2010 When Kathy Pelletier, RN, Director of the Women and Children’s Unit at CVMC, was contacted about local midwife Katherine Bramhall going to Haiti to set up a permanent birthing center, she sprang into action.
“It’s amazing what we women are able to accomplish in a few short days,” stated Kathy. “We have been busily and happily knitting, sewing, shopping and networking. Staff, friends and family together have gathered 200 blankets and approximately 30 hats other than the “stockinet” hats we have made for Haiti.
Katherine Bramhall, midwife and emergency aid relief worker and a group of other relief workers are currently setting up a permanent birthing center in Jacmel, Haiti. She is affiliated with Yayasan Bumi Sehat and is a member of Mama Says, a central Vermont community network organization.
“It was a heartwarming moment this afternoon, when we were able to give the receiving blankets, baby blankets and hats to Mama Says member Laura Peer, for delivery to Katherine to use in her work with Haitian newborns and babies,” concluded Kathy.
